Meeting with STARTTS

17 Sept 07- STARTTS and Cabramatta

Remember the module which I shared about some entries ago? The one where we are suppose to initiate an OT-based service? Well, we had meeting with the organisation, STARTTS, again. STARTTS is a service for refugees in NSW and we are creating an educational package for the elderly refugees there. So we have been going down to STARTTS to gather feedback from them about the package that we have created so far. Have been interested in refugees here because we don't have such a group in Singapore and I feel trauma rehabilitation is an area where Occuptional therapists can potentially venture into.

Anyway, here are some photos taken with my group members! They brought us to Cabramatta after the meeting- its community are mainly Asians so it has a very Asian-feel to the town! When we stepped out of the car, it felt like we were at Chinatown. There were many vietnamese and chinese eateries around...ok! Let's the photos do the talking!

My group in school- Adrain, Kerrie, Zhen, Amber and me!

Guess what?? Amber let me drive her Land Rover to STARTTS!! Haha.. my first time driving overseas! A gigantic 4WD somemore...it was quite scary but fun! The roads are pretty similar to Singapore's except that there are many more roundabouts. The Land Rover is a really powerful car.. can accelerate very fast with just a gentle push on the accelerator!

Us trying to be funny at the entrance of STARTTS!
At the 'heartland' of Cabramatta...so chinese right??

They even have such sculptures all over...Zhen and I are both double 'gus'- born in the year of ox and our zodiac sign is tauras!
Snacking on Red Lea chicken and fries!
Us trying to look piggish with the piggy sculpture! (Opps.. I think its only me)
The shops there all look so HDB-like! Gives us a homely feeling =)

We found ba chang!!

...and durians!!

...and stacks of mooncakes!!
...and pandan-flavoured waffles!! Can you believe it??
Here's a cup of fruit shake...blend of 5 fruits...
can't remember what fruits we chose but it was quite good!
We attended the mooncake festival celebrations at Cabramatta on Sunday with Wanru, Sil and Joan. We ate dim sum on that day too! Will upload the photos soon! =)
